After a successful engineering career building rides for Disney and Universal, and installing systems with Amazon Robotics, I hit a wall. I was doing more and more work—but with no extra pay. That frustration led me to take a two-year sabbatical to reassess. I realized I wanted to be in a role where I’m paid based on the value I bring. Tech sales gave me that, and Higher Levels helped me make it real.
What was the most valuable part of the program to you?
Breaking into tech sales is competitive, especially with no prior sales experience. Every SDR job I looked at had hundreds of applicants. I knew I had to stand out. I found Higher Levels through YouTube and enrolled to fast-track my learning. The frameworks helped me talk like someone already in the role. Instead of asking ‘what will I be doing,’ I could tell hiring managers exactly what value I’d bring on Day 1. I even cold-called for my brother’s cleaning company to build real reps—and sent one of those recordings to a hiring manager, which sealed the deal.

Go all in. If you’re only halfway committed, it’s not going to work. You have to treat it like a job before you have the job. And don't worry about gaps on your resume. No one cared about my two-year break. What mattered was that I was prepared, focused, and could show I was serious. Figure out what you’re good at, and if sales excites you—run toward it with everything you’ve got.
