I could get interviews from my background at Tottenham Hotspur and a solid uni, but I completely bailed a final round with a US company expanding to the UK and the feedback was brutal. Do it, then work like the number one candidate. Use the course to build a simple system and show proof of work. Pick up the phone. Ask for the second go and demonstrate improvement. Prepare thoughtful questions tailored to each person you meet. If you really care about a role, show it by doing something tangible, like sharing a short prospect list you would attack in your first month. In this market you get no rewards for being good.
